I would eat them in a house! I would eat them with a mouse!

This week my focus was to redo my bulletin displays outside my room.  I took down my door display and still haven't thought of anything to put on it! ugh, but i did take down the ground hog glyph and added our Hortons!

Yesterday we started the day by reading Green Eggs and Ham and doing the cute writing activity in The First Grade Parade's March Madness pack.  We voted on who liked and who didn't like them.  Students put their "egg" in the Yes, Oh Yes! or the NO, Oh No! column.  Next, we read Cat in the Hat and completed a Thing 1/Thing 2 glyph.  Students got to enjoy Cat and the Hat parfaits (red jello/cool whip layers)! Then, we read Horton Hears a Who and did these Horton crafts above. Due to running out of time, I skimmed Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  Students loved playing in the oobleck.  We finished the day with watching Horton Hears a Who. Students also brought beach towels and Dr. Seuss books for D.E.A.R. time! Very eventful.

Next week we are starting FAIRY TALES :) and plants. Jack and the Beanstalk anyone?  It will be a great week!

Valentine's Reflection, Out with Winter & in with Spring, and Dr. Seuss?!

On Valentine's day, we had Valentine's day themed math and literacy centers before the "party".

For math the centers were "Be Mine Boxes"- from the Inspired Apple.  They each had to count the pink, red, and purple beads in each box and record the number in the heart that matched the number on the box.  Then students had to show that number in four different ways (tallies, cents, adding, subtracting, place value, etc.)
The next center was Sweet Tart Graphing.  Each child had a baggie of about 12 sweet tarts that they had to graph. They got to keep their bag to eat for the party.  I loved the questions they had to answer.  I think it came from teacher heart.
                                                                    T
The next center was candy heart probability from The First Grade Parade.  They had to grab conversation candy from a bag without looking and tally the results/answer questions.

The last center was Sweet Number Stories by the Inspired Apple.  Students used heart  manipulatives to answer the question cards and they had to write their number sentences on a cute recorder sheet.

Literacy centers included the spelling center- Long U Sort: oo, ew, ue (Click here to check it out!) which went with our spelling words, word work center- a Valentines Day ABC order sheet, listening center- Big Shark's Valentine Surprise, and the  comprehension center- If You Give a Cat a Cupcake  cause and effect cupcake center.

My Long U Sound Sort- "True Love" - Available for $1 on Teachers Pay Teachers  (Click here to check it out!)
President's Day and U.S. Symbols Unit

On Friday we did President's Day centers using What the Teacher Wants- President's Day and U.S. Symbols Unit !!!!!!!   Pictures to come.... I was ready to leave knowing that this week is winter break! I had winter fever! Especially with all our "recess days" last week getting rained out!

When I return to school next week, we will be starting to learn about Thomas Jefferson which works out perfectly since we have done so much with other presidents this month and we have been learning money the whole month of Feb! We will focus on -ar words- Already have the Inspired Apple's Aaargh! Packet to accompany what is in our Story Town Books!
                                                             Learning /ar/ with Pirate Mark (r-controlled vowels}

Here was my doorway for December/January/beginning of Feb....I need a new idea for March/April!
Any suggestions?!

Target Finds- I had already wiped the library of Dr. Seuss books for next week, but saw these books for 2 for $10 bucks at Target...(I didn't have these books!) I also got Horton Hears a Who for $8 so we can watch it that afternoon while we have our Cat in the Hat Parfias! I found a few spring/Easter finds in the dollar section too.

The Parfaits for our afternoon snack!!!

Trying to figure out what else to do for Seuss day....trying to see if I win any giveaways...Probably will be making hard core plans Thursday.
